April 2010
Hello,

Before I start to tell you about our plans for this year I would firstly like to thank some people who without them our fundraising efforts would not be as successful. We are fortunate to have many supporters who donate goods and services for us to use at our events but I must make special mention of a couple of businesses that have been extremely generous over the last 2 years.

QUEST Mandurah &
Bali in Malaga

We also need to thank the CFMEU for their generous donation towards the land that was purchased for our new Multi Purpose Function Centre. It would have taken us a lot longer to pay off the land without their assistance. If you have not seen the new Function Centre there are some photos on our forum, just go to: www.helenflavelfoundation.org/forum/ The WA committee have been very busy over the last 2 months organising some great fundraisers for this year.

We are very excited to be able to offer our WA sponsors the opportunity to purchase "Entertainment Books" from us this year. The books are great value and $13 from the sale of each one goes directly to the Foundation. Please contact me if you are interested and I will email you the order form (credit card facilities are available).

Our next event for this year is our annual Quiz Night. It is always a fun night with lots of raffle prizes and some great items up for grabs in the Silent Auction. This is our main fundraiser for the year and hopefully we will see some of you there. The details are:

When  Saturday June 19th
When  Adriatic Centre
  78 Jones Street, Stirling
Time  7.30pm start – Doors open 6.45pm
Tickets  $15 per person

If you would like some more information or to purchase some tickets for the Quiz Night or an Entertainment Book please do not hesitate to contact me at Melissa.

We will announce our fundraisers for the second half of the year as they get closer.

Kind regards,

Melissa Devellerez

March 2009
Welcome to the first WA newsletter for 2009.

It has been a busy first 12 months for the WA Branch of the HFF. It was at this time last year that Helen, Ron and I started the long process of applying and being granted a WA Charitable Collections Licence. This was granted in April and then I started building a committee of likeminded people who could work together to achieve the goals Helen and I had set for the first 6 months.

We had our first fundraising event in August and by the end of November had raised almost $13 000. This result could not have been achieved without the help of some very generous sponsors and supporters who donated goods and services to be used as prizes. A special thank you must go to the following businesses that helped with every event we held last year. Without people like them we could not achieve what we did.

Justin from The Coolbellup Hotel
Quest Mandurah – www.questmandurah.com
Serenity from Bali in Malaga – www.serenityfrombali.com.au

Also big thanks must go to the WA committee – Bruce, Debbie, Julie, Lynn, Matilda and Sue. They gave up time from their busy schedules to organise these events and it couldn’t happen without them.

I must also mention the many sponsors who have attended the functions held, it has been really great meeting you all and I hope to see you again this year.

We have not been dormant over the first months of the year; we have been busy booking venues and planning our calendar of events for 2009. The team in Australia and Bali are very excited to be working together on an event planned for later this year. At this very moment the students at the Learning Centre are participating in art classes and next month will be given the opportunity to create a painting to be entered into an Art competition with prizes in all age groups. I will be bringing paintings back to Perth to use at an Art Exhibition that we will hold later in the year. The students are very excited about this exercise and it gives them a sense of pride that they will be helping us raise money for the Learning Centre.

The first event for this year will be our very popular Quiz Night with a Silent Auction. Sponsors who have attended this event before will attest to how great the auction is, I am sure a couple of them did all their Christmas shopping at the Quiz Nights last year!

When: Saturday June 6th 2009
Where: Adriatic Centre in Stirling
Cost: $15 per person- tables of 10 ( We will have mixed tables if you can’t fill a table but would still like to attend)

For more details or bookings please email me, Melissa@flavel.com.au

I now have available money tins that can be placed on counters in stores and businesses. They have all the Helen Flavel Foundation details on them and I am sure this will be a very successful fundraiser for us. All those coins can add up quite quickly. If you have a suitable place for a tin and would like to help with our fundraising please email me.

As with any charity we are always on the lookout for prizes. If you have a business or any friends that would like to donate any goods or services it would be much appreciated. Without donation’s we couldn’t hold these events.

If you have any questions or fundraising ideas, please do not hesitate to email me.

I look forward to bringing you more news on upcoming events.

Melissa

What a busy month August was for the WA branch of the foundation. Not only did we hold our first fundraiser and have Helen come to visit but we also finalised the other events for the remainder of the year.

During August we welcomed two new committee members Debbie Cooper and Kaye Jones. Both Debbie and Kaye have fundraising experience and will be wonderful additions to our team. We thank them for coming on board and taking time from their busy lives to help us raise funds for the foundation.

Quiz Night 16th August

Our first fundraiser was an Electronic Quiz Night held on the 16th August at the Adriatic Centre in Stirling. We had over 180 people attend and a great time was had by all. We were fortunate to have Helen attend and it was great for her to meet the rest of the committee and the sponsors who came on the night. There were heaps of prizes and the silent auction was extremely popular, especially the framed artwork painted by students from the Learning Centre. The students will be excited to know their 3 paintings raised $170. Imagine the smile on a students face knowing her painting has contributed more than 800,000 rupiah, which will assist in the Bedding Fund giving a fellow Balinese family a good nights sleep on a new bed and mattress. We are so pleased that over $7000, raised from a successful and entertaining night, has now gone into the foundations funds to be used where it is needed the most.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and also the committee and their families who helped in the lead up and also on the day.

The WA Branch has been very busy preparing for our first fundraiser, an Electronic Quiz Night at The Adriatic Centre in Stirling on 16th August. We have been very fortunate to have had great support from local businesses and have amassed a great selection of prizes for the raffles and Silent Auction. A special thanks must go out to the guys at The Coolbellup Hotel and Quest Apartments in Mandurah who have been especially generous.

Everyone is very excited because Helen Flavel will be attending. This will be a fantastic opportunity for Helen to meet some WA sponsors and a lovely way to kick off our fundraising efforts. There are a handful of tickets available (but no full tables), if you are interested in coming along and meeting Helen.

If you can’t make it to the Quiz Night, do not despair, we have 3 other fundraisers planned for the rest of the year.

They are:

  • 25th October - A Dinner Dance, to be held in Osborne Park
  • Sept-21st Nov - A raffle
  • 22nd November - An Electronic Quiz Night @ The Coolbellup Hotel

We will give further details as the events get closer.

In October we will also be having a get together for anyone interested. It will not be a fundraiser. It is just to give sponsors and friends of The Helen Flavel Foundation a chance to meet and maybe exchange some ideas on what types of events you would be interested in us holding in the future. I will confirm the date closer to the time.

If you have any queries or are interested in any of the coming events, or just want to say "Hi", please do not hesitate to contact me at: Melissa@flavel.com.au.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Melissa

Welcome to the first newsletter for the WA Branch of the Helen Flavel Foundation.

The WA branch of the HFF aims to build awareness of the foundation's work and raise funds for the foundation to continue to provide vital services for the children of northern Bali and their families.

We are happy to announce that we were granted a WA Charitable Collections Licence on 14th April 2008. This licence allows us to fundraise throughout WA.

The committee for the WA branch has 7 members, each bringing different qualities and experience, but all with the same goals, to better the life of the children in Bali. The other committee members are Julie Stoker, Lynn Martin-Brown, Sue Turner, Matilda Gatto, Bruce Hicks and Kim Collard. We are all very excited and are looking forward to meeting some of you at some functions in the future.

Our first fundraiser is an Electronic Quiz Night, to be held on Sat 16th August at the Adriatic Centre in Stirling. It will be a great night with fantastic prizes and a silent auction. We are very pleased to announce that Helen Flavel will be attending, so it would be a great opportunity for any sponsors to come along and meet Helen.

If you are interested in attending the Quiz Night please email me at Melissa@flavel.com.au.

We are planning other events for the future including a dinner dance and will advise when we have confirmed dates.

If you would like to be involved or even hold your own fundraisers please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hope to see you at the Quiz Night.

Cheers
